What Is Aikido?
Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba an art that practitioners use to defend themselves while also protecting their attackers from injury. “the way of unifying with life energy” or as “the way of harmonious spirit”. Aikido’s techniques include entering and turning an attackers movements resulting in redirecting their attack along with various types of throws and joint locks. Aikido comes from the martial art of Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu, and began from the 1920s partly due to Ueshiba’s involvement with the Ōmoto-kyō religion another term used was aiki-jūjutsu. Aikido is worldwide in a number of styles thar range in interpretation and emphasis, they all do share techniques from Ueshiba which have concern for the well-being of the attacker.
